Leo van der Reis, M.D. has published a paper titled “Unstructured Search, Homeland Defense and Health Care; A Different Approach”  The national communications network being built to exchange homeland security information among local, state and federal government agencies also could host the national health information network. The authors argue that health care information technology is a national security issue. That's because reliable communications between medical facilities, police and fire, and all other emergency agencies is a requisite for survival. The paper was published by The Quincy Foundation for Medical Research-Charitable Trust.
